American Legion Children's Home
Mission Statement …to serve children by providing residential care services in times of need, and to perform these services as a sacred obligation to enable their wholesome growth and the development."
UPDATE! UPDATE! UPDATE!
Dear Supporters and Legion Family,
8/10/2010 Since the printing of our last newsletter, DHS put a brand NEW offer on the table for the American Legion Children's Home which is our first viable option so far. They have now found another funding source for us (aside from the Medicaid dollars), however, not for all 62 of our children. The new option, while not perfect, does ensure the immediate survival of this Home. If our plan is accepted with this offer we do still stand to lose 17 or 18 of our kids, rather than 46, and we will still lose 1/4 of our staff, which is better than 3/4. While this news in encouraging, at the same time, please keep in mind the challenges we face ahead as we will still have to make significant cuts to our kids, our staff and our programs.

We are truly grateful to each of you who have made phone calls and written letters which we believe made this possible. Please call our office if you have any questions #866-941-0110. Also, please see the Newsletter page of this site for more information as to how this all came about.
You can help us find more dependable funding for your Children's Home. This crisis clearly illustrates that we must find other sources of funding. If we are to continue our 82 years of service, ALCH must reach out to our friends, supporters and Legion family to ask for your help. If you can give to this cause, your gift will be greatly appreciated and communicates your belief in the future of our children. If you cannot give, you can help us find other supporters and funding sources who can help. We cannot win this battle without your help!

The American Legion Children's Home is doing its part and we need your help!

Our History... The American Legion Children's Home was established in 1928 as an orphanage for children of veterans who could not provide care for their young. The land, as well as the funds for the first dormitory, were donated by E.W. Marland, Conoco Oil man and past Governor of Oklahoma. The facility now serves as a Home to 62 children, ages 11 - 18. Over the past 80 years we have served children from a wide variety of backgrounds with very diverse needs caused by loss of family, depravity, abuse or neglect. Since opening in 1928, the Home has served approximately 8,000 children and still stands as the one and only American Legion Children's Home in our nation.
